Scottish Government pledges to foster purposeful businesses following Commission’s report

The Scottish Government has published its response to the Business Purpose Commission for Scotland’s ground-breaking report. The Report ‘Now is the time for purpose: putting purpose at the heart of Scottish business’ published in June 2022, sets out a vision for Scottish businesses to lead the way in a purpose-driven revolution with solutions for people and the planet driving new business growth and opportunity. The Scottish Government’s response emphasises the need to continue to focus on the economic and social challenges within Scotland, even more so during the unpredictable economic landscape as purpose-led opportunities present an opportunity for growth and innovation.

Responding to the Scottish Government’s response to the recommendations of the business-led Commission, Gareth Williams, SCDI Head of Policy said:

“Our research has shown focussing on solving the problems of people and the planet can help you grow and future-proof your business, so we are delighted that the Scottish Government is putting the recommendations of the world’s first Business Purpose Commission at the heart of business support and the National Strategy for Economic Transformation. We invite and encourage all businesses to consider the recommendations and available toolkits and to commit to taking at least one step towards being more purpose-led in 2023”

The Scottish Government has announced it will take a knowledge-based approach working with educators and business support delivery partners to share the message.

The Commission has produced a series of video case studies to support business make the shift. The stories show how putting purpose firmly at the heart of their operations has helped their bottom line.
