SCDI welcomes focus on business purpose to deliver a wellbeing economy

In response to the Scottish Government’s New Deal for Business Group Report, Sara Thiam, Chief Executive, Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI), said:

“As co-chair of the Wellbeing Economy Sub-Group, SCDI welcomes the New Deal for Business Report and recommendations. We support the resetting of the relationship with business and the recommendations identified to engage more effectively with business on regulation and the reform of non-domestic rates. It’s great to see government recognise the importance of a strong and open working relationship with business and to commit to delivering this. By delivering the recommendations of the Wellbeing Economy Sub-Group, we hope that the Scottish Government will work with businesses to clarify what a wellbeing economy means, and how working together towards this goal will be good for business and Scotland’s prosperity.”

Ms Thiam added:

“There will also be a focus on building on the work of the world-leading Business Purpose Commission for Scotland, a business-led initiative commissioned by the Scottish Government, which presents the case for business taking a purpose-led approach. The Scottish Government will use the Commission’s recommendations that put profit for a purpose at the heart of business to deliver a greener, fairer and growing economy. We look forward to working with the Scottish Government, other stakeholders and our members in the coming months to deliver on the group’s recommendations.”
