SCDI joins New Deal for Business Group

SCDI’s CEO, Sara Thiam, will represent our members at the New Deal for Business Group.  The new group will see Scottish Government and business working together to drive a growing wellbeing economy. It will be co-chaired by Wellbeing Economy Secretary Neil Gray MSP and Head of Investments at the University of Strathclyde Dr Poonam Malik.

Following feedback from business, the New Deal has four main areas of focus:

Shared awareness of the economic and business environment – to ensure Scottish businesses are resilient and able to maximise opportunities within Scotland and thrive internationally through delivery of National Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET).

Developing the best environment to do business – to ensure our skills pipeline, business support, tax and regulatory framework are attractive to business. This workstream will incorporate the short life review of Non-Domestic Rates options.

Enhanced partnership working – build on the Business Partnership Agreement to work better with business across all tiers of government, ensuring business impacts are picked up across all SG policy areas.   Build relationships to ensure private sector support in delivering the priority areas that the government is seeking to pursue.

Contribution to a Wellbeing Economy – build on the principles of Fair Work and being clear on the important contribution and role of business in delivery of a wellbeing economy in Scotland.
