In response to the announcement by the UK Government of the expansion of North Sea oil drilling and the creation of the Acorn Carbon Capture project, Sara Thiam, Chief Executive of SCDI responded:

We welcome new oil & gas exploration that supports the UK’s energy security. However, we encourage the UK government not to lose sight of the need to effect a just transition for the North East, and other parts of Scotland, to a new low carbon economy. The UK government must now bring the same sense of urgency to removing the barriers to delivery of offshore renewables.”

Ms Thiamadded:

“Our Clean Growth Manifesto supported carbon capture and storage as part of an integrated decarbonised energy system. We have supported the creation of the Acorn Carbon Capture project in the North East, as a facility that will play a crucial role in helping Scotland and the UK achieve our net zero targets.”
