Invest 2035: the UK’s modern industrial strategy consultation

The new UK Industrial Strategy should build on the strengths of Scottish industries, universities and places in its priority sectors – but Scotland’s Governments must also take urgent action to remove barriers to business investment in growth across all industries.

The UK Government has been consulting on proposals for a new industrial strategy with the goal of delivering a 10-year plan which gives businesses the certainty and stability to invest in eight ‘growth-driving sectors’ and those places where they have the greatest potential. Our consultation meeting with the Department for Business and Trade for Scottish industries and universities informed our written submission.

We believe that Scotland’s industrial, innovation and regional strengths will help to power the potential growth of the sectors identified and are calling for the UK Government Departments beginning to develop the targeted plans for these sectors with the direct participation of Scottish industries.

The industrial strategy must create the conditions for all industries to thrive to make growth meaningful for people in every place.
