Education & Skills pre-budget scrutiny
Prosper submitted written evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Education Committee on college and university funding and skills reforms. We highlighted:
- The importance of skills to Scotland’s economy; and members’ concerns about workforce and skills supply and a lack of clarity on skills delivery reforms;
- The unsustainability of the funding model for colleges and universities following the erosion of public funding and sharp decline in international students;
- Concerns that research and innovation funding in Scotland is not keeping pace with funding in the rest of the UK;
- The impact of the elimination of funding support for reskilling and upskilling on individuals, employers, and colleges;
- The need to identify a route through which to examine the education and employment infrastructures Scotland needs and sustainable funding options, and promote Parliamentary consensus.
