Explaining the UK’s performance in technology adoption relative to our international peers is complex. However, support for management, improving training and access to technical skills, and better partnerships between government, industry, and academia are all vital to realise the benefits of new technology, such as AI.

In our response, we highlight the value of peer-to-peer learning in facilitating the adoption of new technology, especially among SMEs, as shown by the success of Prosper’s own Peer Works programme. We also call on the UK and Scottish governments to prioritise flexible skills programmes to upskill and reskill workers, especially in STEM skills, by restoring the provision that was contained in the Flexible Workforce Development and Upskilling Funds.
