Clean Growth Leadership Group

Our Clean Growth Leadership Group brings together business leaders and thought leaders who are committed to tackling climate change from business, industry, academia, local government and the public sector.

It was launched to explore how Scotland can deliver clean growth that increases our prosperity, while reducing our carbon emissions. Our ambition is for Scotland to be a global leader in innovation and sustainability. We want to maximise the economic opportunities of the transition to Net Zero.

The Leadership Group is drawing on the expertise and experience of our partners, and the diversity of the wider SCDI membership from all sectors and all geographies. Our ideas are backed by business.

Phase 1: Green Recovery

We’ve developed a plan for Scotland’s Green Recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, which you can download below.

It focuses on what government, as well as the public, private and third sectors, can do in the short-term as we look beyond lockdown to kick-start the economy, create new green jobs and accelerate our progress to Net Zero.

Phase 1: Impact and Success

We were pleased to see a number of commitments in the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government 2020/21 which aligned closely with our recommendations in Building Scotland’s Green Recovery. Positive developments included:

  • £100m Green Jobs Fund
  • £60m Youth Guarantee
  • £25m National Transition Training Fund
  • Support for expanding Community Wealth Building to more local authorities
  • Accelerated funding for energy efficiency and domestic retrofit programmes

We were also pleased to welcome the UK Government’s creation of a new Green Jobs Taskforce to advise on how to create 2 million new green jobs by 2030 and how to reskill/upskill workers.

Phase 2: Clean Growth

We’ve published our Manifesto for Clean Growth, which identifies 7 Clean Growth opportunities for Scotland in the transition to Net Zero and 21 priority actions to maximise them.

Phase 2: Impact and Success

We welcomed the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan update, which included a number of our recommendations.

Phase 3: Towards COP26

We are now utilising the Leadership Group as a platform for coordinating and collaborating on partners’ plans in the year of COP26, the global climate summit, in Glasgow.

We look forward to working with the Scottish Government, as well as the UK Government and other key stakeholders, to explore and progress our other recommendations.

We would also love to hear your feedback on the report and to work with you and your business, organisation or sector to make our big ideas a reality. We know it will take leadership, partnership and collaboration. Get in touch!
