Prosper takes the long view. What’s happening in the here and now remains a priority for us and our members, but to create a country which is fit for coming decades, we must always look ahead.
“This report places Scotland at the forefront of an exciting agenda to unlock the potential of purposeful business to meet the great economic, social and environment challenges ahead.”
Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work, Richard Lochhead*
Following publication of the world-first report, Now Is The Time for Purpose: Putting Purpose at the Heart of Scottish Business, by the Business Purpose Commission for Scotland (delivered by Prosper) the Scottish Government responded positively to key recommendations.
It agreed early actions to incorporate the proposed business purpose framework, toolkit and case studies into business support and advisory services, build knowledge among policy makers on the business benefits of business purpose, and embed business purpose Scotland’s refreshed AI Strategy.
We have been working with partners on the New Deal for Business Group – set up by the First Minister to reset the Scottish Government’s relationship with business – to show that business purpose is the best way of unleashing businesses to build its vision of a fair, green and growing Wellbeing Economy. It is anticipated that a programme of work to implement business purpose will be developed, including metrics that businesses are able to use to measure, monitor and evaluate the impact of their actions.
Our report has generated international interest and there is potential to develop international networks and partnerships to share best practice and opportunities. We have been working with the Canadian Purpose Economy Project on recommendations for the Government of Canada and aim to deepen these relationships.
