Prosper Highlands & Islands Business Excellence Awards Partner Blog: Loganair
As the UK’s largest regional airline, Loganair’s roots run deep in the communities we serve, particularly so in the Scottish Highlands & Islands. Over the years, we’ve made significant investments in these areas, because as a regional airline, we are passionate about the communities we serve. Our commitment is unwavering, and it is reflected in our focus on creating jobs, supporting local economies, and pioneering environmental initiatives.
Investing in the Scottish Highlands & Islands
The Scottish Highlands & Islands are more than just breathtaking landscapes; they are vibrant communities with a rich cultural heritage and a resilient spirit. Loganair has long recognised the importance of these areas, and we’ve committed substantial resources to ensure their continued prosperity.
We are dedicated to maintaining and improving regional connectivity, which is vital for the economic and social well-being of more remote communities. By providing reliable and regular air services, we help to bridge the gap between these regions, making it easier for people to access essential services, connect with loved ones, and conduct business.
Supporting Local Jobs and Communities
Our success is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the communities we operate in. That’s why Loganair is committed to supporting and creating jobs within these regions. We are proud of the fact that we have local employees in every area, who are not just part of our team but are also integral members of their local communities.
For every job we create, additional opportunities arise in associated sectors such as hospitality, tourism, and retail. By prioritizing local recruitment and providing ongoing training and development, we ensure that the skills and knowledge needed to sustain our operations remain within these communities.
Pioneering Environmental Initiatives
We are also deeply passionate about the fact that the future of aviation must be sustainable. That’s why we’ve set an ambitious target to achieve NetZero by 2040. This commitment to environmental stewardship is not just a corporate responsibility; it’s a promise to the communities we serve.
Our journey towards sustainability began in earnest in 2021, when we launched our GreenSkies initiative and introduced a small surcharge on all our flights, which is directly invested in carbon offsetting projects. These projects not only help mitigate the environmental impact of our operations but also support broader efforts to combat climate change. In 2023, we also completed our first all-electric ground vehicle turnaround at Stornoway Airport. This milestone marked a significant step in reducing our carbon footprint and set a precedent for further innovations in our ground operations across other airports.
We are proud to be the first UK regional airline to take such an ambitious step towards managing and mitigating the environmental impact of flying, and we see our decision as a clarion call for all transport providers – road, rail and ferry as well as aviation – to address and reduce emissions across the entire transport industry.
The GreenSkies Community Fund
Our environmental focus doesn’t stop at our own operations. Through our GreenSkies Community Fund, we open applications for small businesses, community groups, and charities to apply for funding to cover the costs of their own environmental projects. This initiative has supported a wide range of projects, from community gardens to renewable energy installations, all aimed at making a positive impact on the environment at a local level.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity and Community Ties
For Loganair, the communities we operate in are at the heart of everything we do. We understand that regional connectivity is not just about transportation; it’s about connecting people, ideas, and opportunities. Especially in remote communities, where our services are often a lifeline, we are committed to ensuring that these regions remain vibrant and well-connected to the rest of the world.
As we continue to grow and innovate, our commitment to the Scottish Highlands & Islands remains steadfast. We are proud to be a part of these communities and look forward to continuing our journey together, building a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
