2020 was an exceptional year for the whole world and one that I’m sure we were all glad to put behind us.  While the early part of 2021 is still presenting us with many of the same challenges, within the oil and gas industry I also believe it will be a year of opportunity.

This year will provide us a chance to challenge and change the way things have traditionally been done and forge a different route ahead. An opportunity for greater collaboration – genuine collaboration – to focus on driving the waste out of the industry, so we can all benefit from greater efficiencies in the supply chain, significantly reduce environmental impact and help drive the industry towards Net Zero.

We also have an open door to push through meaningful change in relation to climate change and emissions reduction. However, the opportunities that we are presented with just now won’t last forever.  As an industry we have wasted too much time and too many opportunities already – we must seize them now. The key to grasping these will be to focus on action and not just words.

We have a vision for the UKCS of operators and the supply chain working together, collaborating based on geographical area of operation within hub clusters, where bases, platform supply vessels and resources are combined to deliver cargo and supplies to offshore locations.  By planning ahead, consolidating cargo from multiple locations and using shared vessels to deliver the cargo in a logical, transparent manner, we can collectively deliver significant financial and environmental savings.

Above all though, what we recognise is that none of this is going to start happening organically – we as an industry must genuinely want this change and work together to achieve it.  We will certainly play our part.
